Terms of Service

Usage of Virola Messenger is subject to the following Terms of Service.

1. Licensing Policy

    - An 'online user' is a user currently connected to the server via desktop or mobile Virola Client app.
    - A free Small Team license is installed by default on new self-hosted servers.
    - The Perpetual License is valid for one major Virola version (e.g. 2.0.0 includes all 2.x.x updates). Upgrading to the next major version (e.g. 3.x.x) will require payment, but with a 50% discount.
    - If the license was purchased less than one year before the new major version release date, the upgrade to the new major version is provided for free.
    - The license covers one production server. You may create backup or test server instances, but only one active production server is allowed.
    - Attempting to bypass license limits is prohibited.

2. Data privacy and security

The server owner fully controls data stored on a self-hosted Virola server. No data from the self-hosted Virola server or Virola client applications is disclosed to third parties or available to Virola developers. Server owners bear responsibility for data storage and integrity.
The only outbound request a self-hosted server sends is to verify its license. The request is sent to https://virola.io/check-license, including the license and the server version.
If push notifications for mobile Virola clients are enabled on the server, encrypted push notifications about new messages and calls are sent from the server to Apple APNs or/and Google Firebase services and then to Virola mobile clients. However, these push notifications can be decrypted only on the server or on the client. If necessary, push notifications can be fully disabled for the server.

3. Updates and Maintenance

We may release updates or new features to maintain or improve Virola Messenger.

4. Terms of Service changes

We reserve the right to modify these Terms of Service at any time, without prior notice.
