How to run Virola in virtual desktop environment via RDP

Corporations use Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) for secure, flexible remote access, allowing employees to work from anywhere while keeping data centralized and secure on company servers. This reduces hardware costs, boosts productivity, and improves security.

Remote Desktop environments are essential if employees work remotely and need to access their workplaces from any location or device. Here are the main reasons why corporations use remote desktops:

  • Centralized IT management. IT teams centrally manage updates, patches, permissions, and security.
  • Uninterrupted workflow. No disruptions can prevent employees from accessing their working environment.
  • Data security. Data remains on the corporate network, not local devices, reducing risk.
  • Flexibility of remote work. Employees access their office desktops, files, and apps from home or on the go.
  • Cost effectiveness. Companies save a lot on powerful equipment, maintenance, and deployment.

Virola Server and Virola Client installation

Since many corporations take advantage of connecting their employees remotely to the terminal server, let's see how to run Virola Messenger in a virtual desktop environment via RDP.

First of all, you need to have Virola Server deployed in your infrastructure. We offer detailed guidelines for deployment on different operating systems. After successful deployment, you will have a server URL or IP address and port number, which will be used by Virola users to connect to their Virola Clients.

Then, Virola Client should be installed on the machine that users will connect to remotely. Each user will use their personal credentials — username and password plus server URL and port number to log into Virola Client. Server URL or IP and port number are the same for all Virola users in your organization.
