How to install Virola server on DigitalOcean cloud hosting

DigitalOcean's hosting is rather cost savvy and offers a wide range of solutions for hosting your applications. Virola server does not consume much resource. Thus, you can start with the cheapest package and then upgrade if necessary.

To install Virola server on a DigitalOcean you need to do the following:

  1. Create and name your project.
  2. Create a Droplet for Ubuntu server.

  4. While creating a Droplet, you can select your payment plan and other settings. Since Virola does not consume much resource Shared CPU with a Basic package will be enough to begin with. You can always upgrade if necessary.
  5. Your Droplet will have an IP address. Remember it. You will use it to connect to the Virola server and then log into your Virola client.
  6. Click "Launch Droplet Console".

  8. After the Droplet console has been launched, follow the instructions for installing Virola server on Ubuntu.
  9. While installing Virola server, you can select an option to run it as a daemon.

  11. When specifying details for Virola server, use the IP address of your Droplet as a hostname. If you have a domain, you can link your domain with the Droplet and then you will use your domain as a hostname for Virola server. As a port you can use any free port, e.g. 7777. By default, the username and password for admin account are set as admin / admin.
  12. After you have completed Virola server installation and started it, you need to install Virola client on your computer and / or mobile devices. Then you can use admin details to log in, create users, and configure other settings.
