Manage Participant Access Levels

Virola's permission system is highly flexible, allowing you to define access rules at the workspace level, for specific user groups, or even for individual users.

Virola makes it easy to control who can do what - without adding complexity:

  • Student accounts can be created with restricted permissions, such as no ability to create new chat rooms for example. Students can be added only to:
    • Their class groups
    • Private tutoring rooms with teachers
  • Teachers and moderators have elevated permissions, allowing them to manage chat rooms, control participants, and moderate discussions.
  • Guest users can join via a secure link and be placed into read-only channels, ideal for sharing announcements, schedules, or important updates without distractions, or into any other room or channel you choose.

Multiple Servers in One App

Virola is designed for educational organizations with complex structures:

  • Institutions can run multiple isolated Virola servers for different subdivisions, such as colleges or departments
  • Each server can be hosted independently
  • LDAP integration allows users to access multiple Virola servers using their institution's Active Directory profiles without creating separate user accounts on each server

This ensures complete separation where required - for privacy, governance, or compliance.

At the same time, teachers who work across multiple colleges can seamlessly connect to all servers using a single Virola client app:

  • Use application profiles to store login credentials and chat history for each Virola server
  • Access each server in a separate tab within the same application
  • Configure notifications and set status for each server

This makes cross-college teaching simple, secure, and frictionless - without mixing data or users between organizations.
