Some jobs require connecting in messaging apps from different profiles. For example, marketing, sales, and support team members often use their business profiles for communication with customers and partners. However, they also need to use their personal profiles for private communication. In such situations, they need to use chat applications that support multiple accounts simultaneously.

However, not all messaging apps support multiple logins into different profiles at the same time. Some of them allow only one login, others are linked to a phone number or have technical limitations for running several user profiles concurrently. In this post, we will discuss messaging apps that allow using several profiles at the same time from one device.

Virola

Virola corporate messenger is a self-hosted communication and collaboration tool. It allows using as many profiles simultaneously as you need. With the help of the "Application profiles" feature, it is possible to open several profiles at the same time, save their settings, configuration, communicate, and collaborate. Virola application profile is a separate set of settings, including login data, notifications configuration, etc. Each profile opens in a separate application tab, and you can see the profile status and the number of unread messages in this particular profile on its tab. All conversations, contacts, and settings stay completely separate.

With the help of the application profiles feature, Virola users can have multiple profiles open in their apps, admins can manage several accounts, and moderators can handle group chat rooms across different profiles. Application profiles feature in Virola corporate messenger is available in desktop and mobile apps without any limitation on the number of concurrent profiles.

MS Teams

MS Teams has enhanced its messaging app, allowing users to sign into multiple accounts concurrently. It is possible to receive chat notifications and collaborate while signed into several accounts from one chat application. Users can use one personal and several corporate or school accounts at the same time. Using multiple personal accounts in Teams is not possible. You can easily switch between accounts to read messages, search conversation history, and access conversation history.

Slack

In Slack, a user account is linked to a Workspace. You can sign into several Workspaces with the same or different email addresses. There is no limitation as to the number of Workspaces you log into. Slack keeps you signed into all workspaces you wish to connect to. You get notifications from every workspace, no matter which one is currently open. Slack allows toggling between accounts easily and makes communication and collaboration more efficient.

Wire

Wire allows you to log into more than one account at the same time, whether this is a personal, business, or guest account. Each account appears in the account switcher accessible from the profile menu. Conversations, contacts, and settings stay completely separate in all Wire accounts. You can easily switch between accounts and remain signed into all of them.

Discord

Discord works a bit differently. It supports multiple user profiles but allows being logged into one. With the help of the Accounts switcher, users can juggle their multiple accounts without entering passwords each time. This is inconvenient if you need to monitor all your profiles in real time and receive messages on all of them.

The bottom line

Work communication is not one-dimensional. There are many reasons why employees require several user profiles:

  • Work with multiple organizations. Working in multiple companies may require handling business or customer communication from different business profiles linked to a specific organization.
  • Have work and personal profiles. Having separate user accounts for business and personal communication is a new reality that requires staying flexible.
  • Monitoring and supervision. Managers may require specific training and monitoring accounts with extended rights or features.
  • Security and compliance. For security and compliance reasons, specific chat app features may be limited, for example, file or screen sharing. In this case, having separate profiles makes it possible to maintain a high security level and keep normal internal communication.
